This week's meeting was a leadership night. After the cadets had fallen in and had inspection, they formed up in the classroom to await the weekly briefing. The briefing began with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for Captain Jeff Zoellick, who passed away on the 27th of October, and was a former Squadron Commander of the Edmond Composite Squadron. After the normal briefing was done, Capt. Larry Westbrook,
the squadron's safety officer, gave a briefing on how to safely handle a gun for the upcoming NRA event that weekend.Â
Â
The meeting was then dismissed, and the classroom prepared for Chief Ritchie's leadership class. Chief Ritchie taught the cadets about basic CAP knowledge such as: rank, grade, and the Cadet oath. He also taught the cadets what their uniforms represented and why they wore them.
Â
Then, 1st Lt. Cox taught the following class. He taught the cadets basic SOP knowledge, chain of command, and positions in CAP, such as National commander. This information would be handy to cadets that were going to attend encampment. 1st Lt. Cox then assigned the cadets some homework. They were to write a paragraph about what leadership meant to them and what kind of leader they thought they were.
Â
Â
The cadets took a quick break and began to drill out on the drill pad. For the last activity of the night, the staff hosted a small quiz bowl cadets. They were split into two teams and were quizzed over the information they had received from the previous classes. The cadets had fun and learned at the same time.
